How to Photograph and Upload Your Property Listing

Modified on Tue, 12 May at 4:42 AM

Good photos are one of the most important parts of your listing. They are the first thing a prospective renter sees and directly affect how much interest your property receives. Nyangu requires that all listing photos clearly show the current state of the property. Photos are uploaded at two levels: the property itself and each individual unit within it.

Property photos

Every property listing requires a cover image and up to 5 additional images. These should show:

  • The exterior and entrance of the building
  • The compound or shared spaces
  • Any common areas such as a lobby, stairwell, or parking

Unit photos

Each unit listed within the property requires its own cover image and up to 5 additional images. These should show:

  • Living room
  • All bedrooms
  • Kitchen
  • Bathroom and toilet
  • Any additional spaces such as a study, store room, or balcony

The cover image for both the property and each unit should be the strongest, most representative photo as it is the first image prospective renters will see.

Photo quality standards

Your photos must meet the following standards to be approved:

  • The space must be clearly visible and well lit
  • Photos must not be blurry, cropped too tightly, or taken at angles that obscure the room
  • Images may be enhanced for lighting, brightness, and saturation but must accurately reflect the current condition of the property
  • Staging or decorating a space beyond its actual state in a way that misleads prospective renters is not permitted
  • Do not use photos from a previous tenancy if the property has since changed in condition

Tips for taking better property photos

  • Shoot during the day when natural light is at its strongest
  • Open curtains and blinds before taking photos
  • Clear the space of clutter before photographing
  • Shoot from a corner of the room to capture as much of the space as possible
  • Keep your phone or camera steady to avoid blur

What happens if my photos do not meet the standard?

Your listing will not be approved until compliant photos are uploaded. You will receive a notification explaining what needs to be corrected. Update your photos and resubmit for review.

Can I add a video tour?

Yes. Nyangu supports video tours for property listings. Record a walkthrough of your property, upload it to YouTube, and paste the link under the property details section of your listing. Video tours give prospective renters a fuller picture of the space and can significantly increase serious enquiries.
